Jessica Leslie receives Golden Apple Award

Walled Lake Elementary third grade teacher, Jessica Leslie, received a Golden Apple Award at the October 1, 2026 Board of Education meeting.

Leslie was nominated by her former co-worker, Sara Greer, who describes Leslie as a positive representative of our district by bringing enthusiasm, empathy and a commitment to growth to everything she does.

“Jessica’s dedication to students extends well beyond the classroom,” explained Greer. “She supports students through Student Council and tutoring, proactively communicates with families, and works closely with colleagues to find solutions that help students succeed.”

Leslie models the growth mindset that she encourages to her students.

“Jessica openly shares that she may not always have the answer or get something right the first time, but she is willing to try, learn from mistakes and do better,” said Greer. “She creates an inclusive classroom where differences are honored, and mistakes are viewed as an important part of learning.”

“Jessica is equally committed to her own growth, seeking out podcasts, professional learning, research and collaboration with colleagues to discover new ideas she can bring back to her classroom,” added Greer.
