Walled Lake Central celebrates homecoming
Walled Lake Central kicked off homecoming week on Friday with its annual parade, carnival, and football game.
The festivities started during the school day a pep assembly that featured performances by the Vikings’ choir, cheerleaders and POMS team. Walled Lake Central senior Mirella Yousif gave us an inside look at the fun throughout the day with an Instagram takeover. You can watch it by clicking on the “WLC Hoco ‘24” highlight on our Instagram page.
The festivities then continued into the night as family and friends lined the sidewalks around the school and into the neighboring subdivision for the Homecoming Parade. Cars filled with the homecoming court and student-athletes led the way, followed by the Vikings’ marching band, and students from Loon Lake, Mary Helen Guest, Oakley Park, Pleasant Lake elementary schools.
After the parade, there was plenty of fun activities for all the kids in attendance. Along with an inflatable slide, candy stand, and face painting, there was a dunk tank. Students and kids lined up for the chance to dunk principal Kyle Meteyer, as well as teachers Joel Sharpe and Cody Armstrong.
The 2024 homecoming king and queen were then surprised during halftime of the football game. Addisyn Shamus and Anthony Poota were complete shocked when they realized they took home the honor.
“I didn’t think we won,” admitted Shamus. “It though (it was the box with) the gold balloons, but they were blue, so I was confused at first, but they announced it so it was nice.”
“It was very awesome, it was pretty cool,” added Poota.
While the evening itself was a special one, the Walled Lake Central football team fell to South Lyon, 51-16.
